Name of Fangirl: Ashley
Fangirl’s Occupation: Clinical Laboratory Scientist
What is her Fangirl interest?
Star Wars (especially the original trilogy and the novels), The X Files, Marvel Comics, Firefly/Serenity, Disney, Doctor Who, Fringe, Bones, Sleepy Hollow, Merlin, anime, and The Lord of the Rings.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this Fangirl?
I’ve been a Star Wars fangirl since I was ten years old and it kind of grew from there. Now, working with kids as a dance instructor and Girl Scout Leader in my spare time, I like to show them that it’s alright to like things like Star Wars and Doctor Who and super heroes even though some of the other girls might say “only boys are allowed to like that.” We all have our own interests and we all have the right to express them without fear of being made fun of by our peers.
How does this Fangirl express her fandom?
Though I don’t cosplay, I go to New York ComicCon every year. I’m frequently found wearing fandom related t-shirts, hoodies, and socks. I will talk to anyone willing to listen about my fandoms and try to convince them to join in the fun. I also enjoy celebrating fandom related holidays like May the 4th Be With You and the Day of the Doctor.
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“I’ve got to be where my spirit can run free
Got to find my corner of the sky” (from “Corner of the Sky” from the play “Pippin”)
What is her favorite Fangirl item that she cannot live without?
It’s a toss up between my fandom t-shirts and my Princess Leia hoodie.
