MEET KATHRYN HENZLER
Design: I am selfish. I am brave – Divergent
A modern Renaissance woman, Kathryn Henzler works independently as a freelancer in the fields of composition, music performance and recording, acting, filmmaking, modeling, writing, Japanese to English translation and Japanese culture and religion research, and of course, fashion, hair, and makeup design. She holds a B.A. in East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Southern California with a minor in music industry.
Kathryn started learning to sew at 10-years old. By the time she was in junior high school she was dabbling in design work, and once in high school, she discovered cosplay, and the rest was history. Since then, she has been creating both replica costumes and original pieces. In June of 2013, one of her designs was chosen to be in the inaugural fashion art show at the Toledo Museum of Art called “Japan: The Art of Fashion.”
Aside from creating her design for the Her Universe fashion show, Kathryn is currently working on designing figure skating costumes and a line of vegan quivers and gloves for archery, projects that stem from the love she has for those two sports. In addition, she maintains her jointly managed Etsy store, Min & Ryn. She looks forward to utilizing her knowledge of East Asian cultures and Western period dress to design new lines of thought-provoking clothing in the future.
