Meet Grace Duval
Design: Thrace – Battlestar Galactica
Grace DuVal is a wearable artist and fashion designer based in Chicago, IL. She first fell in love with the mighty power of the sewing machine at the age of 11 and has never looked back. She began by altering thrift shop garments into fantastical creations, learning how to make her own patterns and bring to life the designs that were in her mind. By the age of fourteen, she began working as a seamstress in the costume shop of her local university’s theater department. With a bachelor’s degree in sculpture, the use of non-traditional materials, such as bicycle tubes, parachutes, and laminated wood, has taken her creations beyond the simple realm of fashion design to create wearable sculptures. This passion for garment creation and costume design has followed her throughout her career. Grace has had her creations brought to life in fashion shows and theater productions across America and has exhibited as far away as Wellington, New Zealand. Currently pursuing her master’s degree in Fashion, Body and Garment at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Grace will continue to make wild and exciting creations for as long as her fingers will let her!
