MEET CRESSIE LEWIS
Design: The Hobbit Wedding Gown – The Hobbit
The designer, Cressie Lewis from Atlanta, Georgia, finally had an opportunity to make her dream wedding dress inspired by The Hobbit thanks to Her Universe! Tolkien wrote in the Fellowship of the Ring that “Not all those who wander are lost.” Cressie will never be lost in this dress because the main fabric is a map of Middle Earth like a prototype dress she made in 2012. The wedding gown features a scalloped hem with a chain of “The One Rings” inspired by a double wedding ring quilt pattern and historical dresses of the American Civil War. Each “ring” was hand appliquéd using historical quilting techniques. The ensemble is complete with Hobbit Feet “Fur” stilettos and a bouquet of gold leaves from the forest realm of Lothlórien. The fabric flowers are printed with excerpts from Tolkien books. This dress also reveals a secret surprise- the underpinnings of the dress reveal the “fires of Mordor” to light up the honeymoon!
Cressie is a license attorney and works for the Advancement Department at Zoo Atlanta. Although she has no professional training, sewing and designing has been her passion and hobby since her grandmother taught her how to thread a needle at the age of 8. She would like to thank Her Universe for allowing her to make the wedding dress she’s always wanted. Now she’s always ready to go on adventures since she has the one dress to rule them all!
