Name: Kate B.
Location: Aurora, CO
Bio: I am a vascular surgeon, a momma and a hard core Star Wars fan since the age of 7. I have been a Nintendo fan since before that – though since I have some distant relation to the Koopa King.
How do you subtly (or not-so-subtly!) work your fandom into everyday life?
I have a large tattoo on my thigh of the Millennium Falcon with the words “Never tell me the odds.” From scrub caps to dress clothes to lounge wear I proclaim my love for Star Wars daily. I watch the movies whenever I need a pick-me-up. I enjoy reading new and old canon in my spare time. I introduced my daughter to Star Wars at the age of 4 and made a mini-me fan out of her – ha ha!
What does it mean to be a fangirl?
To not be afraid to get excited, share and geek out about something you love!
Do you have a favorite quote, or personal motto?
So many but probably “Never tell me the odds.” More recently, “If we can make it to the ground, we’ll take the next chance. And the next. On and on until we win… or the chances are spent.” I am a vascular surgeon and a single mom. I am passionate and privileged to have both humbling and rewarding jobs. I have had to fiercely fight from behind to get where I am but also often behalf of my patients and my daughter. These mantras help remind me to keep going even when others say it can’t be done.
