Name: Alison K.
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Bio: Alison is 20 and an employee of Maximum Comics in Las Vegas, NV. Growing up she was the lone girl in a sea of boys often convincing them to play Pretty Pretty Princess BEFORE they had a Nerf Fight. She now enjoys cons of all kinds, local art fairs, and finding that perfect comic for a new reader.
Think back. Way back. What was her first fandom?
As a young reader, Alison struggled which we eventually determined was due to a need for reading glasses. So with frustration setting in, her father tried something unique and introduced her to his Green Lantern comic books. Every night, dad, her brothers and she would pile onto the bottom bunk of the boys’ bunk bed to listen to dad read them the next chapter in the Harry Potter adventures but it was comic books that started her love of reading.
So many fandoms. What’s hers?
Her fandoms are varied but still include Green Lantern Comics and Harry Potter. She has since added in multiple others including anything Gwen-Pool/Spider-Gwen, Anime, and local comic art. Her room is covered with art from her comic shop and from First Friday (a locals Art Fair here in Las Vegas). Finally I would have to say her “girly” side is fully covered with her love of 50’s style vintage clothing and her love of Disney “Princesses” with her favorites leaning toward the more powerful and independent princesses rather than the more traditional girls who always needed a man to save them.
What three words best describe her ?
The three words that come to mind immediately when I think about my daughter are (1) TALL – Alison is 6’2″ and enjoys putting on 3” heels on top of that. (2) EMPOWERED – she has always been an inspiration to me because of her ability to KNOW who she was and NEVER make apologies for herself, knowing it was perfect for her to be HERSELF. And finally (3) SWITZERLAND – she has an uncanny ability to diffuse any situation without getting her “hands dirty”. She maintains the “neutrality” of Switzerland, while still finding a way to be the peace-maker, the listener, and the negotiator.
