Name of the Fangirl: Tracey
Fangirl’s Occupation: Medical Social Worker
What is her fangirl interest?
Star Wars, anything Joss Whedon or JJ Abrams, BSG, Doctor Who, Star Trek. Basically anything Geeky!
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
I wanted everyone out there to know that it is OK to celebrate who YOU ARE. I am a 43 year old who was always different. I was never a small person, have a strong southern accent, and crazy curly hair! Geek Chic people come in all shapes and sizes, ages, races, and gender. NO ONE should judge a book by its cover.
I have been in love with Sci-Fi since my father took me to see Star Wars in May of 1977. My brother and I still have most of our action figures and toys from then also. I never owned a Barbie, and was frequently made fun of by many other kids because I wasn’t “girly” enough. But because I was happy and confident in who I was, I always had friends who truly liked me for who I was, too. It could be hard when I was younger to find people who liked the same things as I did. Now that I am an adult, I have traveled to all kinds of conventions, and have met hundreds of people who are JUST LIKE ME!
I used to have to make my own Star Wars jewelry because there just wasn’t anything out there for girls. I was honored when Ashley asked my opinion on some of the first Her Universe earrings, and even more happy to be in the first Her Universe photo shoot. I have been waiting a VERY long time for clothing and jewelry to come along that was made for females! Now because of HU, we don’t have to look very far!
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
I love expressing my fandom by combining a little geekiness with my work wardrobe. I will frequently wear the awesome Her Universe t-shirts under my work blazer with heels and a skirt. I wear a Star Wars watch and earrings everyday. My license plate on my car says STAR WRZ. (Yes, people have asked me to sell it to them many times!) I also renamed my two pet therapy dogs, they were rescues, Chewie and Kai…some of you might have to look that relationship up in the Star Wars archives!
Mostly, I just LOVE working in the Her Universe booths and talking to everyone about everything Sci-Fi. It is so cool to see babies all geeked out and little girls with their lightsabers and Ahsoka Tano tunics! I love to see all the cosplay, and just meet people who love the same things that I do. It makes me so happy to know I can help fans out by finding clothes and jewelry that they will love!
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
Live each day as if it were your last. And It Is What It Is!
What is her favorite fangirl item that she cannot live without?
My Wookie bag by Think Geek that my best friend Christine bought me for my birthday, and all of my Star Wars Hallmark Christmas Ornaments. (I have them all!)
