Star Wars (Boba Fett and Princess Leia), Star Trek (Dr. McCoy), Harry Potter, LOTR and the Hobbit, Dr. Who, Firefly, Once upon a time, Eureka, Pokemon, Disney Pixar, Sound of Music (I know, but she loves it), Marvel (of course all of the characters)
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
Sylvia is a dedicated invidual, giving it her all at work and to her fangirl status. I think she even went to Ole Miss because Dr. McCoy went to school there. Even through her dedication to fitness she sports her Star Trek uniform jersey while in triathalons.
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
Through her expressions and clothes, you can tell that she embodies all the good qualities that exist in every fangirl. That there is a better tomorrow, good will always win out at the end, being fashionable is key, and having a witty retort is important for every converstation. Her office is decorated with racing bibs and a plethora of Sci-Fi memorabilia. Every time anyone walks into her office you hear the “woosh” as if you just walked on the bridge of the Enterprise.
Most importantly she shows her fandom through actions. This genre isn’t just about the future (or a long time ago) or even technology, it is about how life lessons are universally translated to any species. Whether it be the golden rule or the prime directive she makes sure that her decisions are sound and that everyone around her is treated equally.
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“I’d love to change the world, but they didn’t give me the source code”–Abraham Lincoln
What is her favorite fangirl item that she cannot live without?
Besides her phone and hairspray, it would have to be her Princess Leia and Han Solo lego people who sit guarding her desk.
