Name of the Fangirl: Savannah
Fangirl’s School Grade: PreSchool
What is her fangirl interest?
Savannah’s fangirl interest is in strong female characters and superheroes.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
I chose to shine the spotlight on Savannah because she is a real-life superhero herself. Savannah has an incurable cellular energy disorder called Mitochondrial Disease. This means that her body cannot properly convert food and oxygen into life-sustaining energy. Think of it like trying to power a whole household on a single battery. Most children with “Mito” don’t live to see their teenage years because there is no cure. Savannah’s fighter spirit is an inspiration!
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
Savannah expresses her fandom by playing dress-up! Children with Mitochondrial Disease dream of a cure, but they also dream about what they want to be when they grow up. It’s important for Savannah, to imagine herself *grown-up.* To know that she can be anything….to never let herself be limited by the disease that could claim her life at any time. She imagines that she can be a [Viper] Pilot, President [of the 12 Colonies], Police Chief, Captain, Heart Surgeon or all of the above as an actress. She recently did some photo shoot dressed up as some strong female characters to bring awareness to Mitochondrial Disease. Check it out!….
