Name of the Fangirl: Sarah
Fangirl’s Occupation: Writer
What is her fangirl interest?
Sarah loves Jean Grey and comics – especially Marvel ones. She also enjoys Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Wars.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
I’ve looked up to Sarah since before I met her in person (I followed her on Twitter first). She wrote a fantastic book called One Con Glory – it’s a geek romantic comedy and I highly recommend it – and she’s always willing to dispense writing advice. She’s written essays on a variety of topics from comics to geek girls and spoken on panels and she knows just what to say and articulates herself so well. Plus, she’s passionate about the things she loves.
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
She writes geeky books shares her passion with others, and wears amazing Her Universe and Tokidoki Marvel shirts.
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“Girl powah.” — said with the exact same cadence, tone, accent, and attitude as Daisy Steiner (Jessica Hynes) in Spaced. Daisy is forever her role model.
What is her favorite fangirl item that she cannot live without?
Her friend Jenn (aka JustJenn) got her a custom-made Phoenix (Jean Grey) pinata for her birthday one year. It is beautiful and garish and has long red streamers for hair. It is also nearly as tall as she is. It sits by her living room window, watching over her while she writes and possibly scaring off the neighbors. Jean is a character who meant a lot to her in childhood, and Jenn is a fangirl friend who means a lot to her now. She loves them both dearly and she loves her pinata.
