Name of the Fangirl: Olivia
Fangirl’s School Grade: Second Grade
What is her fangirl interest?
My daughter loved Star Wars and comic books from the first second they were introduced to her
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
Like most little girls in grade school who don’t just like princesses and pink, my daughter also likes to wear her wolverine t shirt, her hulk t shirt and her star wars t shirts. She has been bullied by the other little girls because she wears “boy” clothes. She quotes Star Wars and hums TNG theme while she plays in the tub. She is amazing and far braver than her mother who tried to hide her geekdom in school.
Showing her photos from conventions, cosplay and sites like The Mary Sue, geekwithcurves and geekmoms has helped her see that she is not alone in wanting to love sci-fi and comics. She should be commended for being a cool geek girl even in the face of adversity.
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
She loves her geek clothes and cherishes trips to Universal islands of adventure just as much as a visit to the princesses in Disney. She will often quote her favorite star wars lines and belts out the empire march from Star Wars frequently. Her tub time is filled with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo rescuing Princess Tiana from the villain.
She can often be found in her playroom dressed as a princess with her Darth Vader mask and light-saber, fighting side by side with Batman in her “secret lair”. That girl has rescued Batman more times than Robin.
For Halloween she has asked to be Princess Leia, Harry Potter, Nightmare Before Christmas and Cheetara, which was of course accepted (see photos)
We have put on a superhero themed birthday party as well as a Star Wars birthday party featuring a light up R2-D2 cake with sound effects all at her request. Spoiled..yes. Deserving….certainly.
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“Thundercats HOOOOO” or humming the music from Star Wars.
What is her favorite fangirl item that she cannot live without?
She loves her lightsaber that has been repaired several times after epic battles.
