Name of Fangirl: Moira
Fangirl’s School Grade: 5th
What is her Fangirl interest?
Moira loves all things Star Wars. She especially admires Ahsoka and is thrilled with her new tunic from Her Universe. Moira also has a soft spot for Jawas and hopes someday there will be a Jawa Jedi. Moira also loves Pokemon, Minecraft, manga, anime, Star Trek, Legos – her universe is constantly expanding thanks to other fangirls who share their interests! Her most recent subject of adoration is the Nekobasu from the film My Neighbor Totoro.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this Fangirl?
Moira has loved Star Wars her whole life. She got a bit of negative feedback from peers when she was younger – that whole “Star Wars is for boys” nonsense – and it really rattled her. But Moira took the lessons she learned from that experience and has developed an interest in girls’ rights. She’s especially interested in raising awareness about girls’ education and has been inspired by Malala Yousafzai. Moira hopes to start up a girls rights club this fall; the idea was enthusiastically received by the teacher she approached.
How does this Fangirl express her fandom?
Moira and her dad have a room they’ve dubbed “Star Wars Town” which is full of figures, ships, dioramas, books, lightsabers and all sorts of collectibles. They spend hours in there playing, making up stories and dreaming Star Wars dreams. Moira loves to share her passion for Star Wars with her friends, especially girls, and has been a big proponent of the “Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars” annual event. Moira goes out of her way to give positive feedback to other girls who express their fandom!
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you?”
What is her favorite Fangirl item that she cannot live without?
Moira is most proud of their vintage Kenner Jawa figure with a cloth cape. (A close second is her Ahsoka figure!)
