Name of the Fangirl: Mary
Fangirl’s Occupation: Sr. Events Lead, Lucasfilm Lead on producing the Star Wars Celebrations, other Lucasfilm convention appearances and Editor of Bantha Tracks, Star Wars fan newsletter
What is her fangirl interest?
Mary loves: Star Wars, the entire movie and television saga, including the Expanded Universe in books and comics.
Lord of the Rings (Movies, not the books. Blasphemy!).
Harry Potter movies and books.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. I know that’s not really fan girl territory, but I’ve watched that movie more than any other, and am almost done with all 20 of the novels by Patrick O’Brian.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
Where do I even start? If you were to look up Fangirl in the dictionary, Mary Franklin would be listed there as an example for the perfect Fangirl. She is smart, kind, tough, supportive, hard working, passionate, driven, fearless, the ultimate trail blazer all while conquering the world in high heels! She is an inspiration to so many fangirls, including myself, and is a leader by example. When I feel defeated or down, I think of Mary Franklin and all that she has accomplished, and I pick myself up and keep going. When I had to choose a Fangirl of the Day for May the 4th Be With You, I thought of none other than Mary 😮
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
Mary says she enjoys, “Helping produce events for fans that include their passion and creativity as much as possible. I don’t believe there are any more brilliant and generous fans anywhere than Star Wars fans, and I want their genius to shine whenever and wherever it can.”
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“Never make a decision based on fear.”
She says, “It’s how I strive to live my life every day. And that quote comes from me if anyone is interested. ;-).”
What is her favorite fangirl item that she cannot live without?
Her battered copies of the Han Solo trilogy novels by Brian Daley.
Where can we follow her online?
Plus in Bantha Tracks in Star Wars Insider, where I editorialize with every edition. J
