Name of Fangirl: Lisa
Fangirl’s Occupation: Medically retired at 48 due to a rare muscle disease called Inclusion Body Myositis. It is where your immune system attacks your muscles like they are foreign invaders. Instead of colds or flu. I am now permanently disabled.
What is her Fangirl interest?
Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this Fangirl?
I wanted to show that in spite of several chronic illnesses, including my muscle disease, people can still have fun and enjoy life. Enjoy your fandom, or whatever you set your mind to you can succeed.
It’s not about your abilities, or your disabilities. It’s about living and enjoying your life to the fullest. As Fangirls, nothing can stop you from living your dreams and enjoying life.
If I can live my life to the fullest and be happy with all my medical conditions, I want to inspire you to be yourself, and live in joy and happiness.
How does this Fangirl express her fandom?
Star Wars clothes, every single day. I wear Her Universe R2-D2 dresses a lot. I also have many Star Wars t-shirts, leggings, and Star Wars jewelry.
I have Star Wars purses I use every day. I have R2-D2. My most favorite is my fuzzy Ewok handbag. That really connects with people where they want to pet his fur. I love the people interaction, and the human connection. I also love to talk about Star Wars. People think it’s the coolest bag ever!
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“Never tell me the odds.” Han Solo, The Empire Strikes Back.
I try to keep a positive attitude daily. It helps me keep fighting for my Inclusion Body Myositis that has no cure. In spite of the struggles of walking, pain, and exhaustion, I’m no quitter. I’ve heard lots of negative things about my disease. I am me. I’m not my disease. “Never tell me the odds.”
What is her favorite Fangirl item that she cannot live without?
My 1978 C-3P0 necklace with the move able arms. My parents gave it to me for my 13th birthday. Two years later my Dad died when I was 15, and my Mom passed away when I was 23, both from cancer. So, you can see why I can’t live without it.
It’s a special gift from my parents who I lost early. It is a piece of my fandom, but it also brings back loving memories of my parents who have been gone over half my life.
