Name of the Fangirl: Lisa
Fangirl’s Occupation: Pharmacist
What is her fangirl interest?
Doctor Who, Firefly, Stargate SG-1, all Star Treks, Star Wars, Torchwood, Millennium, comic books – mostly indie titles, video games – Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Skyrim, sci-fi and any girl that kicks butt in sci-fi/horror/fantasy movies/books like many Milla Jovovich characters, Lara Croft, Selene from Underworld, etc.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
Sci-fi plays a major role in my life. Most shows like Firefly, Doctor Who, etc. present stories of a philosophical or human nature-type theme. Even though these shows are fiction, they resonate with a lot more truth than things we see on the news and other “reality” shows. I’m inspired to draw and create things based on the characters that I feel strongly about and to share the underlying messages from the shows and movies.
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
I draw, create things, go to Phoenix Comicon. A couple of years ago I hand-sewed an Eleven costume for my dog Blitzen for Halloween, for no particular reason but the challenge. Blitzen’s 19-years old and still spunky so I always joke that he’s The Doctor. Last year I created a life-sized Weeping Angel to use in my front yard Halloween set-up. I also collect action figures, random collectibles.
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
“I’ll be a story in your head. But that’s OK: we’re all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?” – The Doctor, “The Big Bang”, 5:13
What is her favorite fangirl item that she cannot live without?
My full-sized replica of Violet’s sword from the movie “Ultraviolet”.
