Name of Fangirl: Joyce
Fangirl’s Occupation: Family and Consumer Sciences teacher
What is her Fangirl interest?
She loves all things Marvel, especially Black Widow, and Star Trek, with Spock being her favorite. Her all time passion though is Star Wars. And when I say passion, that’s an understatement, she lives Star Wars.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this Fangirl?
Joyce Krebs (aka my teacher) is a huge Fangirl. The greatest thing, though, is that she takes her passion for all things geeky and shares that passion with everyone around her. She is a frequent blogger on CoffeeWithKenobi, and AssemblyofGeeks. She shows off her love of Star Wars, especially, in her classroom as a teacher and our FCCLA advisor. This past year she dressed as Ahsoka Tano to participate in Star Wars Reads Day at our local library, and had her young padawans (FCCLA members and herself) read and do Star Wars related activities with the kids. She also has gone to read in costume to kindergartners at our local elementary schools. Outside local events she has made things such as crocheted BB-8’s to donate to nonprofit organizations. She has some incredible skill. The greatest thing about her, besides her love of all things geek, is that she is the kindest, most dedicated, and awesome person you will ever meet. She is always ready to lend a hand, and consistently goes above and beyond what is asked of her.
How does this Fangirl express her fandom?
The real question is how does she not. Her wardrobe consists of everything Star Wars, and some other Fangirl things. There is always something Star Wars related incorporated into her outfit, whether it is her BB-8 scarf, Darth Vader Shoes, Black Widow Belt, or Boba Fett purse. She is very crafty, and even sews her own Star Wars skirts from vintage Star Wars pillow cases. She consistently goes to Star Wars conventions in cosplay. She even incorporates Star Wars in her classroom, with posters, and even in lesson plans. She still has a Leia t-shirt from when she was in junior high, and a script she typed when she was ten years old of the complete dialogue of a Star Wars movie, she has over 1,000 action figures, and every piece of memorabilia, from trading cards to speaker phones. Presently since the day The Force Awakens debuted in theaters she has seen it 6+ times ( I’ve lost count), even on the 17th before it was officially released.
What is her favorite Fangirl item that she cannot live without?
“I’m going to have to say my favorite piece of clothing is my Princess Leia Return of the Jedi t-shirt I got when I was thirteen. I feel like a female hero when I wear it. Leia was one of my big heroes.” – Joyce Krebs
