Name of the Fangirl: Jacqueline
Fangirl’s School Grade: 4th Grade
What is her fangirl interest?
She is a big Star Wars fan! She got hooked one day while on a school trip when she was riding in a minivan with one of her friends and they had “The Empire Strikes Back” on. I hadn’t been able to get her to watch any Star Wars before that, but then she wanted to see it all. We started with the Original Trilogy before going to the Prequels (this way she got the full experience the way they were released.) Once she started on Clone Wars, she immediately gravitated to Ahsoka and went as her for Halloween in 2011.
She also loves adventure movies and TV shows including Indiana Jones, all of the Avengers, MacGyver, and Tales of the Gold Monkey.
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this fangirl?
She is your typical girl who likes dolls and clothes and doing arts and crafts, but has a deep love for Star Wars, superheroes, and other genre movies and shows. (She does, however, regret watching the Star Wars Holiday Special and sent a complaint letter to George Lucas about it.) She shows that being a fangirl doesn’t mean that you’re not also a girly-girl!
How does this fangirl express her fandom?
You could say that she is somewhat of an apostle or missionary for fandom, telling her friends and classmates about these movies and shows that are much better known among their parents than her peers. She loves going to the Smithsonian’s “Air and Scare” at Halloween where she gets her picture taken with members of the 501st and Rebel Legion.
What is her favorite fangirl item that she cannot live without?
Her Star Wars figures — especially the female Jedi Knights! She’s got both the Ahsoka space suit figure (which her Halloween costume was based upon) as well as the Ahsoka scuba figure. She also has Aayla Secura (it was a thrill to have her photo taken with a member of the Rebel Legion who was dressed as her) and Barriss Offee.
