Name of Fangirl: Amy
Fangirl’s Occupation: Amy is a volunteer at the thrift store for a local outreach.
What is her Fangirl interest?
Amy loves all things Avengers, Doctor Who, and Star Wars. She’s equal opportunity – embracing both the heroes and the villains (but she always wants the heroes to win).
Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this Fangirl?
Amy has all the things a good superhero needs ~ courage, brains, heart, and super-strength: She is literally titanium. Amy has a rare disease that affects her bones. Last year, doing nothing more than stepping from one foot to the next, her femur (the biggest bone in the body!) just snapped. She had a titanium rod put into her leg. It’s been a long year of recovery for her.
Because of her disease, her bones don’t heal quickly, but she didn’t waste any time feeling sorry for herself. Instead of laying in a boring hospital room for rehab, she put up Doctor Who decorations. She decked out her wheelchair with Captain America shields. She embraced her own alter-ego, “Titanium Girl,” and used that as motivation to get back to walking and now starting to run. She still has quite a ways to go, but her hard work and positive attitude inspire everyone who has been on this journey with her.
How does this Fangirl express her fandom?
Amy loves to draw and create her own stories. She writes fan fiction as well as inventing her own sci fi tales. And, she loves going to all kinds of Cons – Comic-Con (where she attended the Her Universe Fashion Show), D23, and next up, a Doctor Who Con! And she loves meeting other people who are into Fangirling, too!
What is her favorite quote or personal motto?
#IAmTitanium
What is her favorite Fangirl item that she cannot live without?
Her current favorite is her Star Wars t-shirt and lightsaberskirt from Her Universe. Her other favorites are her collection of all things Doctor Who inspired. She couldn’t live without paper and a collection of colored pencils in order to express her Fangirldom!
