Name: Tara G.
Location: Greenville, SC
Bio: I’m a Hufflepuff, a Martell, and a traveler, mom of four fur babies (two rescue pups and two adopted cats), who loves what I do for a living: write, speak about geek culture, and organize conventions and other themed events. But above all I’m a huge nerd and a forever fangirl!
In school? What grade? Out of school? What do you do for a living?
I graduated college many, many moons ago, and these days I am a writer, public speaker and event planner. I have one published novel (soon to be two!) and write for a geek culture website; I also founded and organize Ice & Fire Con, the first ever Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones convention in the U.S., as well as Beach City Con, a Steven Universe themed convention happening for the first time later this year.
Think back. Way back. What was your first fandom?
While Star Wars was definitely the first fandom that I geeked out about, I think my first TRUE fandom was X-Files, because it was the first time I was in love with something that I also shared with several of my friends. We would have watch parties and discuss theories, which was really all you could do fandom-wise living in a small town in the 1990s.
As a fangirl, what are you most proud of?
I love using my geeky interests to bring people together – whether it’s gathering a bunch of friends at my place to have a Star Wars or Lord of the Rings marathon, hosting a meet-up at a convention, or organizing my own conventions. I’ve met some of the most amazing people – and many of my closest friends – and gotten to know them better by doing these things, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
