Think back. Way back. What was your first fandom?
Definitely Star Wars. Although A New Hope came out the year before I was born, I remember my Dad taking us to see Return of the Jedi in theaters. I remember being fascinated with the Ewoks and wishing I could have one of my own. That being said, I was one of the first to buy a Wicket Build-A-Bear when they came out. LOL In any case, Star Wars is one of my first memories bonding over something with my Dad. It wasn’t long after that that I became a full blown SyFy geek.
What’s the best thing about being part of this fandom?
The camaraderie. Even though I enjoy a variety of fandoms that span from SyFy to Comics to novels, Star Wars is to me the universal of fandoms. Everywhere you go people genuinely love Star Wars and friendships and bonds are formed simply because you also are a fan. My Star Wars cosplays are my most favorite to wear simply because of the love (from young and old alike) that I receive from random strangers. It’s an amazing experience to be a part of such a huge group of fans who share the same love of Star Wars that I do. In fact, this year marks my very first year ever attending a Star Wars Celebration and I don’t even have the words to express the overwhelming joy I feel inside to be able to experience this event at least once in my lifetime.
Do you have a favorite quote, or personal motto?
“Growing old is inevitable, but growing up is a choice.” I believe that you’re only as old as you feel and I don’t think anyone should feel like they are too old to cosplay or enjoy the things or experiences that most feel are immature after a certain age. I’m blessed to be married to someone who also firmly believes in that motto and I look forward to growing old with someone I never have to grow up with.
