Name: Leigh B.
Location: Hillsborough, NJ
Bio: High School English teacher and Geek mom who always has her Disney side showing. I try to incorporate my fandoms into my classroom and my home life as much as possible.
In school? What grade? Out of school? What do you do for a living?
I am a High school English teacher who teaches both a graphic novel and science fiction elective. I also advise the Fandom Club, which is a gathering of students who are passionate about a variety of fandoms.
Think back. Way back. What was your first fandom?
My first Fandom was Star Wars. Princess Leia was my first favorite princess because her name is similar to mine and she looked like me. I love that Leia has become such an icon of strength and power for so many girls and women. She truly is the coolest Disney Princess.
What does it mean to be a fangirl?
To me a fangirl is first and foremost passionate. Every fandom I discover, from Star Wars to X-Men to Harry Potter, I try to maintain a level of passion. Fandom allows that excitement to shine through and connect with others on a unique level. It is through my fandoms that I have made my best friends and closest relationships. It’s with that passion that one can stay true to them self.
