Name: Amber L.
Location: Orange County, CA
Bio: I’ve been a proud geek ever since I discovered my very first fandom, Harry Potter, at the age of 8. My love of reading helped me find my true passions in creative writing and blogging. Fun fact: one time I told Misha Collins that people fancasted him as the Doctor, leading him to troll us all. Oops.
So many fandoms. What’s yours?
This is going to be a long list: Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Harry Potter, Sherlock, Addams Family, Alice in Wonderland, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars.. to name a few.
If you could live in any fictional place, where would it be?
Definitely Imladris, aka Rivendell. Gorgeous views and flowy dresses – yes please!
As a fangirl, what are you most proud of?
I started seriously blogging back in 2012-2014 (I was one-third of 3 Chic Geeks and even got to write for MTV Geek!). One of the things I covered was the whole “fake geek girl” phenomenon. I know that I, along with many others, had trolls trying to bring me down and make me feel like my opinions weren’t valid. Instead of letting that get to me, I would laugh, screenshot them and share them with my cowriter, Ren. We called it “The Benefits of Blogging” and took it as a sign we were saying something meaningful. Over the past few years, I feel like the stigmas surrounding being a fangirl have started to fade. I’m really proud of the way all of us fangirls have come together to let the world know that we’re not going to stand down, we’re here to stay. There’s definitely more work to be done to make sure the geek world is inclusive of everyone. But as long as we keep being supportive of one another, we’re well on our way. Who runs the world? FANGIRLS!
