Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this Fangirl?
Amber is a fan of fans! She has presented her research on Disney fandom at international conferences and is active in fan-scholarship communities. Growing up in San Diego, she found her fangirl-ness by attending Comic-Con w/ friends who were aspiring animators, game designers, and comic book artists. She loves the supportive environment that fans create for each other and believes that being a fan makes you better at doing the things you love 🙂
How does this Fangirl express her fandom?
Amber creates fan-themed lectures and presentations for class as a way to connect with students and share their enthusiasm for pop culture. She presented a Hunger Games-themed lecture for PR Campaigns class (to bring out their competitive edge), Hackers-themed lecture for professional development (hack your future!) & Star Wars (how to be a PR Jedi). She attends Star Wars Weekends at WDW, where she was super excited to meet Ashley Eckstein in person, and loves to support her teenage son in his Brony fandom!
