Why did you decide to shine the spotlight on this Fangirl?
I was raised a fangirl, thanks to my fandad! My parents have always been huge into movies and one of my earliest film memories was watching Star Wars all day almost everyday with my sister at home while my parents were at work. My Dad had made sure we had seen it and even at 6 years old I fell in love! It opened my eyes to new worlds and allowed me to use the extensive imagination I was born with! I related to Luke and his relationship with his father, my birth mother regretfully had made decisions that didn’t allow her to be in my life but I held on that there was still good in her, and I always will wholeheartedly. The dark side is no match for the good in the Force, for love. As I grew up I found other loves in The Matrix and Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia in which my friends threw me a surprise birthday party all in Narnia costumes to present me with a very real and huge replica of Peter’s sword. I cried like a baby.
How does this Fangirl express her fandom?
A few years ago, after reading the Twilight series I was looking for something more. I read The Hunger Games. It changed my life much like the way Star Wars did. I have always felt a connection to Luke and his journey in accepting his purpose and the sacrifices he must make, but my connection to Katniss was immediate as well, only stronger. I was one of the first readers of The Hunger Games and became immersed in it’s world. Fire has always been a theme in my life and here I was reading about a girl on fire meant for bigger things than she ever gave herself credit for. Katniss has inspired me so much in real life. It didn’t take me long before I was extremely connected to the HG fanbase via twitter, meeting tons of others with my passion, and through that I met Sheila and Lindsey who’s HG fansite was growing too fast and needed another admin, they invited me through seeing my love and passion on twitter. I accepted and for almost 2 years I have been running and writing for www. HGGirOnFire.com! This site is my love, It has brought SO many opportunities and I have met so many amazing people! Lionsgate has involved us in every step of making the books to film, I was invited to the premiere last March, I’ve met and chatted with the cast several times, we were featured on Nightline. I feel like my fangirling has guided me toward the best opportunities in my life so far and is building me a career and that feels awesome. I feel like I have an outlet to reach out to people and young girl’s who are fangirls, an outlet to practice the true messages behind The Hunger Games. My passion that started in a Universe Far Far away is now grounded and opening doors into more Universe’s to be discovered! It’s so exciting!
